The Intrepid Front Wheel is 100gms lighter than the Detec Front Wheel; and the Rear Wheel is 215gms lighter. With slightly lighter tyres, (Continental Grand Prix 4 Seasons) the overall
weight of the Leopard Pro is reduced from 9.03kgs to 8.69kgs. (19.15lbs).
General:
Wheel Spokes are black, wide bladed Sapim CX-Ray spokes, with low profile hidden heads that creates a very neat and racy look.
Spokes are Front 20 and Rear 24.
The Rim width of the TXT50 is 25.2mm, which is 2mm wider than the Detec wheels. It fits a 25mm tyre very comfortable, but an adjustment has to be made to the TRP TTV brakes to allow for the extra width.
The 50mm depth of the wheel requires at least an 80mm Presta valve on the inner tube, as anything less is difficult to inflate.
The RXT Wheels are both Clincher and Tubeless ready.
Wheels come complete with Rim Tape and Black Skewers.
Initial Ride Report:
With the UK winter still being upon us, my first (outside) rides on the RXT50 wheels were very short and mostly on the flat. (This Ride Report was initially written in early 2019.)
I have also ridden them on my static rollers when the weather was bad.
These wheels are noticeably very fast and very quiet. Far superior to the DETEC wheels that were originally on my Leopard Pro.
As far as I can tell, then run true and have no odd ‘hot spots’.
The wheels feel lighter and stiffer, being more responsive to sudden accelerations.
These wheels definitely offer a comfortable ride, even at fast cruising on very mixed road surfaces. UK roads are generally very poor at this time of year, after the winter, with numerous pot-holes and washed out gravel.
(My fast flat out is max 30mph on the flat – Wind Assisted!)
Climbing – not tested a lot – but had no problems and certainly the small weight reduction, while not overly noticeable, certainly helped.
Best of all – the rims do not squeal / scream at you when you brake hard, especially when the road is wet.
On the static rollers, the wheels pick up quickly and getting into a steady power output is easy and comfortable.
Conclusion:
A fantastic pair of replacement wheels for the SpeedX DETEC wheels, and certainly the best wheels I’ve ridden in a long time.
